School Accountability Report Card (SARC)

McDowell Elementary School Accountability Report Card (2024-25)

McDowell School SARC

Each year, every California public school publishes a School Accountability Report Card (SARC) so families can see how the school is doing. Here are some highlights from McDowell's most recent report.

Academic results: In 2024-25, 19% of McDowell students met or exceeded state standards in English language arts and 13% in math. In science, 3% of fifth graders met or exceeded standards. Strengthening reading and math is the top priority in our School Plan for Student Achievement.

Support for every learner: McDowell offers a Spanish Dual Language Immersion program alongside our English program. Students are supported by a full-time Bilingual Resource Teacher, guidance specialist, school counselor, student advisor, and a special education team. Every student has their own copy of the core textbooks and instructional materials.

A well-maintained campus: McDowell's facilities earned an overall rating of Good in the most recent state inspection (December 2025).

Building a safe, positive campus: McDowell had no expulsions. Its suspension rate was 3.4%, above the district (2.2%) and state (2.9%) rates. Now in its fourth year of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), McDowell teaches clear schoolwide expectations, uses restorative practices, and celebrates students at monthly CARES assemblies. The campus is fully fenced, visitors sign in at the office, and the school worked with a safety consultant this year to strengthen its emergency plan.

A community school: McDowell is a hub for the whole family. Our on-site Family Resource Center connects families with free resources, and the Boys & Girls Club provides breakfast and after-school care on campus. Families join us for Cafecitos with the Principal, bilingual PTA and ELAC meetings, Día de los Muertos, El Día del Niño, and the Jog-a-thon. Every school message and event is offered in both English and Spanish.
