Why We Love McDowell

Stimulating Environment That's Built to Thrive

At McDowell Elementary School, we believe that every child deserves a nurturing and stimulating environment where they can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Our diverse and inclusive community is dedicated to fostering a love of learning and providing each student with the tools and opportunities they need to succeed. With a strong focus on bilingual education, social-emotional learning, and community engagement, McDowell Elementary stands out as a beacon of excellence and innovation in education.

Spanish Dual Immersion Program

Our Spanish Dual Immersion Program is a cornerstone of our commitment to bilingual education. Starting in Kindergarten, students are immersed in both Spanish and English, fostering bilingualism, bi-literacy, and cross-cultural understanding. This program not only enhances cognitive development but also prepares students to thrive in a global society.  This program currently extends from Kindergarten through 4th grade and 7th grade with plans to expand fully up to 8th grade.

Environmental Education Pathways Project

McDowell Elementary is proud to participate in the Environmental Education Pathways Project, an initiative of the Sonoma Environmental Education Collaborative (SEEC). This project aims to elevate the impact of outdoor environmental education, particularly in underserved communities. By providing hands-on learning experiences in nature, we foster environmental literacy and stewardship among our students. This program builds strong relationships with local environmental education providers and enhances our school's capacity to deliver impactful, nature-based education.
