McNear Elementary School Accountability Report Card (2024-25)

McNear School SARC

Each year, every California public school publishes a School Accountability Report Card (SARC) so families can see how the school is doing. Here are some highlights from McNear's most recent report.

Strong academic results: In 2024-25, 53% of McNear students met or exceeded state standards in English language arts and 52% in math, up from 51% the year before. Science results rose from 38% to 43%. On all three tests, McNear students scored above both the district and state averages.

Support for every learner: Along with classroom teachers, McNear students are supported by a full-time resource specialist, a special day class teacher, a reading specialist, a bilingual resource teacher, a speech and language specialist, a guidance counselor, and a full-time student advisor. Every student has their own copy of the core textbooks and instructional materials.

An exemplary campus: McNear's facilities earned the state's highest overall rating, Exemplary, in the most recent inspection. The park-like campus includes a watershed, garden, bird habitat, and the McNear Arts and Sciences Maker's Space. McNear has been named a California Green Ribbon School and a Blue Zones School.

Safe and supportive: McNear had no expulsions, and its suspension rate (0.8%) was well below the district and state rates. The school holds monthly fire, earthquake, and lockdown drills and reviews its safety plan each year with staff, the School Site Council, and ELAC.

A community that pitches in: McNear's PTA funds a garden coordinator and an environmental literacy teacher, and supports field trips and classroom supplies through events like the Move-a-Thon and Día del Niño. About 20 community members mentor students one-on-one, and families serve on the PTA, School Site Council, ELAC, the Arts and Sciences Center committee, and the Team for Inclusivity, Diversity and Equity. After school, students can join Marimba, homework club, enrichment classes, and Boys & Girls Club care.

Where we're focused: About 12% of students were chronically absent in 2024-25, meaning they missed 10% or more of the school year. Getting that number below 10% is one of the goals in our School Plan for Student Achievement.
