McNear Elementary School Plan for Student Achievement 2026-27
McNear School SPSAEach year, our School Site Council, made up of parents and staff, reviews our data and sets goals for the year ahead. Here are the highlights of McNear's plan for this school year.
Math: We want more students to meet or exceed state standards in math, building on the 52% who did last year. For students with disabilities, our goal is to roughly double the share meeting standards, to 30%. Teachers will use common math assessments throughout the year to catch gaps early, and special education and classroom teachers will meet regularly to review each student's progress. Students with disabilities will spend as much time as their IEPs allow in general education classrooms.
Reading and writing: We want more students to meet or exceed standards in English language arts, building on the 53% who did last year, with a goal of 25% for students with disabilities. Teachers follow a year-long plan to cover every priority standard. At every staff meeting, our Bilingual Resource Teacher leads a "Multilingual Minute" on strategies that help all students, especially English learners. English learners also get weekly intervention support from our reading specialist and Bilingual Resource Teacher.
Belonging: Our goal is for every student to have a trusted adult at school. Every student has a staff mentor on campus. Staff aims to recognize five students a day with Falcon Feathers and to connect with five students outside their own class. Classrooms teach social-emotional skills through Responsive Classroom, Toolbox, and mindfulness. All school communications go out in Spanish, and celebrations like Día del Niño bring families and staff together.
Attendance: We aim to bring chronic absenteeism below 10%. The principal will talk with families about attendance at the start of the year; staff will check monthly for students who are starting to miss too much school and meet with their families early; and students with perfect attendance will be honored at an end-of-year assembly.
The plan was approved by the School Site Council on April 20, 2026, and by the Board of Education on May 12, 2026.
