FAQs

  • Where do I register for sports?

All registration is done online. See links above.

  • How much does it cost to participate?

There is a suggested athletic donation of $100 (per sport). All of our athletic funding comes solely from these donations and fund-raising. This TAX DEDUCTIBLE donation goes to help cover referees/officials, league dues, uniforms & equipment. Without these donations we would not be able to continue offering all of our athletic programs. Some families may wait until a child makes a team before donating, but no student will be turned away from athletics for not donating. We gladly accept and appreciate donations of any amount. If you can please donate, checks can be made payable to PJHS and turned into the main office at anytime. Donations can also be made online by clicking the link above.

Thank you for your support of PJHS Athletics!

  • What are the student athlete expectations?

Being a student-athlete is a privilege and athletes should keep in mind they are representing not only themselves, but their team, coaches, school and community at all times. As a result, PJHS Athletes should strive to serve as positive role models to other students at all times. Expectations for our student-athletes include (but are not limited to): responsibility, respect, sportsmanship, work ethic, and commitment.  Inappropriate behavior may result in disciplinary action that could include suspension and/or removal from the team.

To be eligible to participate in athletics a student must maintain a 2.00 GPA with no more than one F on the most recent grading report.   Only the regular school-wide generated progress report grades may be used to determine athletic eligibility.  Students not meeting this academic requirement will be ineligible for that entire 6 week grading period (even if their grades improve before then).  As a result those students may not be allowed to tryouts and/or may be removed from a team.

Students must attend at least half of the school day in order to participate in any athletics competition/practice that day (unless they have prior approval from the Principal or Athletic Director).

Students are required to participate in Physical Education class in order to participate in any athletics competition/practice that day (unless they have prior approval from the Principal or Athletic Director).

  • What is the tryout process?

We encourage all interested student athletes to participate in a sport while here at PJHS. Tryouts (or "cuts") are held for basketball and volleyball with regards to safety, playing time and to maximize player and team development. Please keep in mind that we also compete in a competitive athletic league and are preparing our athletes for high school competition.

    1. Students must be cleared before they may physically participate in the tryout process. Please review the HOW TO PARTICIPATE LINK for more information on the Athletic Clearance process.
    2. Students who are not cleared, but still want to tryout are encouraged to still show up and watch the tryouts sessions.
    3. Tryouts may last anywhere from 1-5 days before the final teams are selected. At times there may be multiple rounds of "cuts" before the final team is selected.
    4. Athletes are expected to attend all tryout dates until final "cuts" are made/posted. The more they attend, the more opportunities the coaches have to see their abilities.
    5. Athletes who miss any of the tryout days may be affecting their chances to make the team.
    6. Basketball and volleyball teams usually keep between 10-15 players*
    7. The final team selection will generally be made using a combination of the following criteria (in no particular order)*:

    • Skill & Performance
    • Attitude
    • Willing & able to learn new things
    • Positions & roles needed for the team
    • Effort & hustle
    • Player potential
    • School grades & behavior

Team rosters and tryout lists/info will be updated on the PJHS Athletics Websites as they become available.

    * Please keep in mind that the tryout information above includes general procedures. The PJHS administration, AD, and coaches reserve the right to change or modify the tryout process at any point if they feel it is in the best interest of the team and the program. It is ultimately up to the individual coaches to determine the final team and final number of players based on what they feel is best for the team and the overall program.

We wish that all interested students could participate, but unfortunately that it is not a practical or safe option. Understand that the coaches can only make their team selections based on what they see over the few days of tryouts. The best advice for all student-athletes trying out is to be as prepared as they can, work as hard as they can and give their best effort during all of the tryout days to increase their chances of making the team.
