McKinley Elementary School Plan for Student Achievement (2026-27)
McKinley School SPSAEach year, our School Site Council, made up of parents and staff, reviews our data and sets goals for the year ahead. Here are the highlights of McKinley's plan for this school year.
Belonging and connection: We want more students to feel they have an adult at school they can talk to when they're upset. In 2025, 44% of students said they did, and our goal is at least 46%. Every classroom holds weekly community circles, staff uses a check-in/check-out system for students who need extra support, and teachers continue training in positive behavior support and restorative practices. This work also supports better attendance: chronic absenteeism dropped from 22.5% in 2023 to 15.7% in 2025, and we aim to keep lowering it.
English learners: We want more English learners to make progress toward fluency (44.1% did in 2025) and more of them to be reclassified as fluent English proficient. English learners receive at least 30 minutes of daily English language development, plus extra support from our Bilingual Resource Teacher. We also provide interpreters at conferences and parent events, technology office hours for families, and personal phone calls inviting families to ELAC meetings.
Reading for English learners and students with disabilities: Our goal is to raise English language arts results for both groups by at least 30 points on the California School Dashboard. Teachers use reading assessment data to plan instruction, and students receive small-group support through programs such as Orton-Gillingham, UFLI, and Read Naturally. An updated Student Study Team process helps us catch struggles early.
The School Site Council approved the plan on May 4, 2026, and the Board of Education approved it on May 12, 2026.
