School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA)

Petaluma Junior High School Plan for Student Achievement (2026-27)

PJHS SPSA

Each year, our School Site Council, made up of parents and staff, reviews our data and sets goals for the year ahead. Here are the highlights of Kenilworth's plan for this school year.

Math: We aim to raise math results by at least 10 points for English learners, students with disabilities, Hispanic students, and students from low-income families. We're adding co-taught math classes at each grade level, and we plan to offer AVID, a course that builds study, writing, and organization skills. Teachers will use diagnostic and interim assessments throughout the year to identify skill gaps and then plan next steps together. Students can get after-school help at Homework Club, including bilingual support.

English language arts: We aim to raise ELA results by at least 10 points for the same four student groups. Co-taught English classes at each grade level, reading assessment and intervention programs, and regular progress checks will help teachers target support where students need it most.

Families as partners: We want more families involved in school decisions. Our goal is to grow parent participation in School Site Council, PTSA, ELAC, and district LCAP input. Families get a weekly newsletter from the principal, real-time grades in the Aeries Portal, and Spanish-language support from our bilingual office staff. Incoming students and families can join feeder school tours, principal-led parent tours, and Fall Preview Night. Our 8th graders visit Casa Grande High School and Sonoma State University.

Connection and well-being: We want more students to feel they have an adult at school they can talk to. We also want to reduce chronic absenteeism and suspensions. Support comes from several places:

  • Student advisors, and a counseling team that includes marriage and family therapists and a school psychologist
  • the Wellness Center, a quiet space where students can reset and return to class
  • mentors through community partners like Mentor Me and the Petaluma Education Foundation

We're adding more rallies, student recognition, and supervised lunchtime games and sports. English learners get support through designated English language development classes.

The plan was approved by the School Site Council on April 23, 2026, and by the Board of Education on May 12, 2026.
