Test for Alert Modal

Mission & Vision

Beginning in the 2025–26 school year, Valley Vista Public Waldorf will open its doors as a new TK–8 public charter school on the Valley Vista campus in Petaluma. This unique merger of Live Oak Charter and Valley Vista Elementary blends the strengths and traditions of both schools to create a vibrant, whole-child learning experience inspired by Waldorf education.

What is Waldorf?

Founded in the early 20th century, Waldorf education is based on the insights, teachings and principles of education outlined by Rudolf Steiner. The principles of Waldorf education evolve from an understanding of human development that address the needs of the growing child.

Waldorf schools offer a developmentally appropriate, experiential, and academically rigorous approach to education. Waldorf education aims to inspire life-long learning in all students and to enable them to fully develop their unique capacities. Music, theater, writing, literature, legends and myths are not simply subjects to be read about and tested. They are experienced. Through these experiences, Waldorf students cultivate their head, heart and hands, growing ready to engage and be of service to the world.

Waldorf education, founded by Rudolf Steiner in the early 20th century, emphasizes nurturing the whole child—head, heart, and hands—through a curriculum that integrates academics with the arts, movement, and practical skills. By aligning learning with the natural stages of child development, Waldorf education aims to inspire lifelong learning and foster imaginative, responsible individuals.

At Valley Vista Public Waldorf, students will experience a curriculum enriched with music, theater, storytelling, and hands-on activities, all designed to cultivate creativity, critical thinking, and a deep connection to the community. This approach not only meets academic standards but also supports the emotional and social growth of each student.

We invite you to explore how this innovative educational model can benefit your child and our community.
